Hardware ID is PCI VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_1992103C&REV_0C I started out installing from WDS and everything went perfectly until I took it to the user's desk and it wouldn't connect to the network on that subnet no matter what I did (all the usual suspects). I changed a port on my desk switch to be on the same subnet as the user's port and did more troubleshooting before ultimately deciding to quit while I was ahead and just start from scratch. Download HP 655 network card drivers for Windows 7, XP, 10, 8, and 8.1, or install DriverPack Solution software. Downnload HP 655 laptop drivers or install DriverPack Solution software for driver update. Download the latest driver, firmware, and software for your HP 655 Notebook PC.This is HP's official website to download drivers free of cost for your HP Computing and Printing products for Windows and Mac operating system. I formatted the HDD with the Windows disc and installed the OS (not using WDS because I couldn't connect to it). When I tried to automatically search for it using Device Manager, it said the driver couldn't be installed. Tried the driver from HP's site, uninstalled it and tried the driver from RealTek's site. Tried disabling and re-enabling the adapter here and there. Still nothing. I moved the HDD to another identical chassis. Repeated the process above. I've set up probably over 20 of these laptops using the same process I used for this one. What's going on with this thing? EDIT: I forgot to add that when I put a different HDD in the '[an]other identical chassis' the Ethernet works fine, but doesn't work when I put the HDD from the computer originally having the problem. Are you saying that a HDD from a working PC, placed in this PC, works? Hopefully this is less confusing. I have computer A and computer B. Computer A has no Ethernet connectivity but Computer B does When HDD A is put in Computer B, Computer B has no Ethernet connectivity When HDD B is put in Computer A, Computer A has Ethernet connectivity. Once the drive is clean, boot the OEM disk and let it install and see if the NIC works. Agreed, I'd start over with this one. I deleted any partitions and formatted the drive using the OEM disc. I installed the drivers from the HP OEM disc for the computer. It says the driver is installed but I'm having the same issue I had originally when I tried to deploy it to the user: it works on subnet 1 but not on subnet 2. When connected to subnet 2 (ruled out cable and switch port), it spins for a long time then says 'unidentified public network' with a 169.254.x.x address. @MScott924, thank you for your inquiry and to the other IT Pros for their helpful feedback. I sent your post to our consultant for review.
